Google Search Console image search reporting bug

Google Search Console Image Search Reporting Bug – What You Need to Know

If your website relies heavily on Google Image search traffic, you may have recently noticed a sudden drop in reporting data inside Google Search Console. The good news? This dip wasn’t due to an actual traffic loss—it was just a reporting glitch.

What Happened?

Google confirmed that between June 5 and June 7, some image search statistics were not properly captured in Search Console. This caused performance reports to show lower numbers, even though your actual search traffic remained unaffected.

Here’s the official notice from Google:
“June 5-7: Some image search statistics were not captured during this period due to an internal issue. Because of this, you may see a drop in your image search statistics during this period. The change did not affect user Search results, only the data reporting.”

How to Check if You’re Affected

Log in to Google Search Console.
Go to your Performance Report.
Use the Search Type filter and select Image.

If you notice a dip specifically between June 5–7, don’t panic—it’s just a reporting bug, not a loss of traffic.

Why This Matters for Your Business

For businesses that generate leads and sales from Google Images, misleading data can make it difficult to measure true performance. While this specific glitch didn’t impact actual results, it highlights the importance of having multiple analytics tools and working with a digital marketing partner who understands how to interpret data correctly.
